I do like this product, but even more so, I just like to say its name. I’m sorry if I find it overly funny, sometimes I’ll do that with things, but c’mon, ‘Calibowls’.. it sounds like an old person’s word for nonsense.

“Calibowls!!” replied the old man..

So, what is it really? Well, actually, it’s pretty simple. Calibowls are bowls with lips… sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? Well, it looks pretty simple too, so I was amazed that there don’t seem to be any other bowls out there quite like them! Calibowls have a patent pending, special lip around the inside of the top rim of the bowl. The lip is designed at an angle that pushes food back onto utensils instead of over the rim, completely avoiding spillage. Like a wave in the ocean (hey, these bowls are the brainchild of a group of California natives and surfers; the bowl’s original concept was conceived 20 years ago while surfing in Baja Mexico) the lip pitches the food back in the desired direction, rather than over on the table.

As the food contents are pushed toward the side of the CaliBowl, the lip causes a wave-like recirculation of the food back toward the CaliBowl’s center. Whether you are using chips, spoons, chop sticks or your hands, the CaliBowl keeps the food where it belongs… in your bowl!

Though I didn’t think that there was much a bowl could do to ‘wow’ me, I’ll say I was a bit taken aback when finally trying these out. The concept seems so simple, but I’ve really never seen it before. As such, I thought it was definitely worth a mention! Once you try this bowl, you’ll look at ordinary bowls like red-headed step children. It reminds me of the time I showed my two-sided belt to a friend of mine (one side brown, one side black). He was amazed, asking why anyone would buy any other kind of belt ever? I thought the same of these bowls… Why do I need a normal bowl, when this one is so much better? And they come in a number of brilliant colors and sizes.

I’m sure my mention will be appreciated, but you know you’ve hit the big time when you make it on the O List; and Calibowl did just that, recently featuring as one of Oprah’s infamous selections. I’ll go ahead and say that it is my new favorite ice cream bowl for sure… I cannot tell you how many mouthfuls of chocolate goodness have been saved from my table and my clothes by these wonderful bowl lips.
