The press release about Mozart’s four new Chocolate Liqueurs piqued my curiosity. These chocolate liqueurs hail from Salzburg, Austria, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The company first macerated cocoa from West Africa with vanilla from Madagascar,  then combined three of their liqueurs with cream from the Netherlands. The dark chocolate has no cream.

With an espresso martini having recently become my dessert of choice, I wondered what one would taste like if made with their newly introduced Dark Chocolate Liqueur. I had to find out.

Sadly, the drink was disappointing.

I then looked in their press materials to see what drink they recommended for using the dark chocolate liqueur. It was the Old Fashioned, my other go-to cocktail. I hesitantly created one, thinking that it might be too sweet. Instead, it was yummy.

Here’s my version of that cocktail for you to try.

Chocolate Old Fashioned

1 ounce Mozart Dark Chocolate Liqueur
2 1/2 ounces your favorite bourbon
2 teaspoons agave syrup
3 dashes orange and/or chocolate bitters
Orange peel

Combine the liqueur, bourbon, agave and bitters in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Pour over one large ice cube, rub the glass rim with the orange peel and add to the drink. Enjoy.
