Bonnie:  When Terra Original Exotic Vegetable Chips was introduced, I would often cherry-pick the tasty orange-colored sweet potato ones from the mixture that also included batata, taro and yuca chips. I’m glad that bags of just sweet potato chips are now available from both Terra and the aptly named company, Food Should Taste Good.

In the past, BOTB named as a FeaturedBite that company’s The Works chip, an all-natural tortilla chip made with poppy and caraway seeds, minced garlic and onion — that reminded me of an everything bagel. This time we’re selecting its tasty Kettle Cooked Salt & Pepper Sweet Potato Chips.

These chips contain 25 percent less fat than Terra’s and other sweet potato chips. A serving also contains as much vitamin A, potassium and fiber as a regular sweet potato, while having only 150 calories, 0.5 grams saturated fat of eight grams total, and 140 milligrams sodium. There’s an impressive 150 percent of the daily value for vitamin A, a hefty 400 milligrams potassium and — decent for a chip — three grams fiber.

Bryan: We’ve written about the aptly named Food Should Taste Good Inc. before. It’s pretty simple actually: We really think that its food tastes good. It’s definitely a  better way to snack; a healthier, more flavorful, less Cheeto-dusty way to have a nosh. The company’s founder, Pete Lescoe, created Food Should Taste Good Inc. in 2006 after having held positions within the grocery and food-brokerage businesses. One can only assume he was terrified by the terrible quality of most snack foods and even more horrified by the massive quantity of them being sold every day! His goal was to create a unique snack line with an equally addictive but natural taste. He wanted to use only healthy ingredients and he wanted to make only GOOD food. Well, good for him! And great for all of us!

Food Should Taste Good does not just give you a salty snack; it provides sophisticated, even complex flavors generally unavailable in everyday snack foods. The Salt & Pepper Sweet Potato Chip is crunchy, yet chewy, salty and sweet. It’s different and delectable. It tastes good and certainly has a brand name that says it all.

FSTG products are made from quality, all-natural ingredients. All of its varieties are gluten-free, cholesterol-free and contain no trans fats, which cannot be said for a normal potato chip. Great for some, the snacks are certified Kosher. Great for all, they are also low in sodium and a surprisingly good source of daily dietary fiber. FSTG even has a number of varieties that are certified vegan. Hey, food should taste good for everyone, right?

Eric: There’s something so delectably simple about a quality chip. The beauty of a chip is in its simplicity: one part potato, one part oil and one part salt. Now envision that combination with sweet potato and pepper, disguised in a sinister crunch.

The secret behind the crunch? It’s the Food Should Taste Good Inc. not-so-much-patented kettle cooking method. Rather than fry in oil like most standard chips, the small batch kettle-cooked chips bask in the glory of a kettle “oven.” Simply stated, Food Should Taste Good, tastes incredibly good. With multiple chips varieties, the Salt & Pepper Sweet Potato Chips are only one of an arsenal to choose from.
