I discovered Tacombi years ago, enjoying their authentic Mexican huevos rancheros and much more. I’ve eaten at and enjoyed many of their city locations serving Mexican fare. So when the publicist invited me to sample the fare at their newest location in the East Village, I took a neighbor and headed over.

Tacombi’s newest East Village location serves a different menu from what you would find at their other taquerias. It consists only of five dinner tacos and two breakfast ones that weren’t available in the evening when I sampled them.

Also, unlike the other locations, there are no seats. It’s a grab-and-go or eat at their communal countertops. We sampled all five tacos, with my favorite made with tender and flavorful ribeye.

Those five ($4.98 to $5.49) include Tacos al Pastor (thin slices of marinated spit-roasted pork topped with pineapple), Tacos de Suadero (slow-braised beef tacos named after the cut of meat), Tacos de Longaniza (ground pork seasoned with garlic, dried chiles, achiote, cumin and clove, cooked with suadero, a special cut of beef), Tacos de Milanes (for those wanting a plant-based option as it’s a blend of spices, flaxseed and roasted mushrooms breaded and lightly fried) and my favorite the Tacos de Ribeye (with cilantro, onions, salsa ranchera and lime). I skipped the extra chopped fresh onions but requested lots of fresh cilantro. All use freshly made corn tortillas.

My first Margies in a bottle-to-go were better than expected. There’s a Margarita Clásica
and one made with watermelon, the Sandía Santa,

Good place to grab a bite on the go.
