I’d been to Claudette a couple of times, but never for brunch. I like its location with tables on Fifth Avenue just a bit North of Washington Square.

The service was great. At brunch, though, the food was in need of tweaking.  The shakshouka — a Maghrebi dish of eggs poached in a tomato sauce — screamed for seasoning. A little salt and pepper did help.

My dining partner mentioned that his beet salad ($16) with dollops of yogurt, thin pear slices and toasted almonds over chicories (radicchio and endive) needed something to “jazz it up.”

I’d suggest Claudette for lunch or dinner, perhaps not brunch!
