Cafe des ArtistesBy far, the best perk of my main undertaking (running www.villascaribe.com) is the travel. Experiencing the delights of a tropical destination as part of a legitimate business outing is an unbelievably enjoyable part of my life. I recently returned from Mexico; the beautifully lush hills and beaches of Puerto Vallarta served as backdrop for a few real-estate meetings we had planned. Of course, in our downtime, we sampled the best of what PV dining had to offer.

Our villa, Casa Salinas, had an excellent chef, so our group generally took dinner at home. Despite the cuisine available while overlooking the Pacific from our al fresco dining table, we did venture out on the town for one great dinner out. Our choice was Cafe des Artistes; an impeccable upscale restaurant, housed within a century-old home just above the Malecón (boardwalk) in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. Cafe des Artistes has earned a distinguished reputation as one of the best restaurants in Mexico, and we were going to see what they could do.

The 212-seat restaurant serves food by Chef Thierry Blouet. An extremely visual chef, dishes are artistic compositions of color and shape, truly reflecting the name of this gem. The dinner menu offers a number of ala carte appetizers and entrees as well as a well-priced bistro menu (3 courses / prix fixe). We went ala carte following an abundant round of pre-dinner drinks, sampling roast spiced duck, goat cheese with pumpkin puree and tuna poke as a few of the delectable highlights.

An extensive collection of fine wines rounded the dining experience in what truly was a palatial setting. I would HIGHLY recommend Cafe des Artistes for any special experience while spending time in Puerto Vallarta. If you didn’t already have a good reason to head south of the border, now you do!
