Madam Ji, an Indian restaurant in the Village, was our second stop on that evening’s moving feast.

We started with cocktails. My friend tried their  Thora Mirchi, a blend of gin, jalapeño infused triple sec with a splash of simple syrup ($15).  Loving spice, I ordered the Mumbai Mule because it was made with habañera vodka ($15). Sadly it was not spicy at all.

We asked to have our dishes served one at a time as we were the only outdoor customers.  Their smoky charred eggplant ($19) is not to be missed; it’s flavored with cumin, ginger and garlic and served with lachha paratha, whole-wheat fried flatbread. Had we not ordered other dishes, I would have finished every bite.

Almost as good as the eggplant is their Daal Makhani ($10), a dish from the Punjab region of India, with black lentils, kidney beans and tomatoes.

Their Aloo Gobi ($10) was the only disappointment, not the flavor of the steamed cauliflower and potatoes, as we liked the gingery taste but the lack of cauliflower. Our serving had only two pieces as it was mostly the tuber!

I do recommend a visit.
