I’m happy to say that I’m a bit spoiled with my jobs, great food and travel are my loves.. and combining the two is simply the best. Having had the pleasure of visiting more than a few Caribbean islands, I will take this opportunity to make a foodie travel recommendation. There are a few destinations that can wow your palate (St. Barth and St. Martin are both fantastic!), but for a true glimpse of the beautiful melting pot cuisine of this tropical paradise, Curacao is tops.

A mix of over 50 cultures, Curaçao’s food reflects the varied histories of its many different residents. Dutch, Spanish, Creole, Indonesian, Venezuelan, Indian, and Japanese are just a few of the many culinary influences on this diverse island.

On my last visit, I opted to dine at one of the luxurious hotels, found just off the main drag of downtown Willemstad. We made our way to Jaipur, a restaurant located on the grounds of Hotel Kurá Hulanda Spa and Casino. Jaipur is outdoor dining at its finest; nestled above a quiet pond, where a gentle waterfall blends with soft background music.  The cuisine at Jaipur represents some of the finest dishes from Asia, with a strong Indian influece.

Appetizer standouts included Tandoori smoked lobster tail with sweet & sour chutney, ground lamb samosas, and nori-wrapped ahi slices with Pad Baigopoa (noodles, tenderloin tossed with Thai chili & basil) and Laal Maas (lamb curry) impressing (and stuffing) for our entrees..Fantastic food and an intimate garden setting, tropical breezes cooling and wine flowing… the next time you’re in the neighborhood.
