I don’t know about you but when I was little, I was repeatedly told “not to play with my food.” Food was certainly something we had our hands in though! Getting kids into the kitchen at a young age can do wonders for their food appreciation. Even though I was a considerably picky eater as a child, the constant exposure to food culture was certainly a determining factor in my wide-ranging palette today.

And the way things are done continues to change. In today’s intensely food-focused society, there’s a ever-growing interest in food-related products, designed for kids to enjoy; basically, food toys! You might not remember EZ Bake oven, but every generation has their selection of food toys. From pint-sized aprons to full-blown interactive kitchens, kids can play with their food like never before!

The Toy Industry Association (the mafia-like organization behind the whole Santa myth) recently produced a series of videos featuring a number of classic cooking and food toys.

So, the next time you consider buying a Cabbage Patch Kid, A Power Ranger, a Pokemon or whatever else might be the newest toy fad, reconsider instead. Give them the gift of food fun! Hey food never goes out of style! From an adorable “Meatball Madness” game to the amazingly unique “Sushi Slicing Play Set,” food-themed toy products – from a wide range of manufacturers – are a fantastic way to teach kids about eating healthy.
