On our way to see a 50th anniversary production of Money, the Musical, a fun and funny commentary on the early 1960s at Studio Theatre on Theatre Row we stopped at 44 ½ to dine in their outdoor garden.

Still doing birthday outings, my friend ordered a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Ponsarain, Vintage Rose 2004 Champagne, to continue the celebration. We appreciated the bubbly while deciding what to order.

With the waiter raving about the roasted short rib quesadilla with its melted cheese, onions, roasted red and yellow peppers, avocado mousse, pico de gallo & drizzled with chipotle mayo ($15), we ordered it and were glad we did. Worth trying.

We then split two pan-seared fish dishes. Roasted diver scallops over a mélange of grilled asparagus, roasted sweet corn, butter beans, shiitake mushrooms, fresh baby carrots all tossed in a smoked bacon, madeira reduction ($32). And, seared striped bass atop asparagus, baby spinach with a side of arugula salad with olives, orange segments crispy chanterelles in a spicy champagne reduction ($33).

For dessert the brought out a candle bedecked warm molten chocolate cake with a side of Tahitian vanilla ice cream ($11).

Then off we went to Money, the Musical, the amusing production about a young man seeking greater meaning in life with a four-person cast, playing myriad characters. Fun for sure.
