We started with a peppery Shishito-Rita specialty margarita-like cocktail with tequila blanco, triple sec, lime, cilantro and the shishito peppers ($15). We followed that with the best soft-shelled crab I’ve had this season – a perfectly cooked corn-crusted one, over some greens, sliced asparagus and mustard ($19).
We were a bit reluctant to try the grilled white clam pizza as we both had lived near the home of that specialty pizza for years, but the waiter persuaded us to order it. This was slathered with ricotta cheese and
pickled hot peppers ($19). Interesting, but not New Haven’s simply with fresh clams, garlic and cheese.
The salmon came with cauliflower, a balsamic drizzle and crispy onions ($35), what I liked better and would recommend was the spicy Sicilian-style escarole, raisin and fennel side ($11).
Our dessert was an 86-proof chocolate icebox cake. Yes, that one traditionally made with the Nabisco chocolate wafers, although this one had Bourbon and espresso whipped cream ($9).
I highly recommend a visit while soft-shell crabs are in season!
