Looking for a place for a drink after walking to and from Brooklyn on the suspension bridge between southern Manhattan and the northern part of the borough, we searched our phone’s apps. We were amused that each one included The Beekman Pub not far from the bridge’s entrance.
Happy hour had begun at this Irish pub as we arrived, offering $5 wines and well drinks from 5 to 7, Monday through Friday. With the nibbles the pub offered skipable — overcooked mashed potatoes and meatloaf — we ordered calamari and fries to have with our drinks. Their accompanying hot sauce certainly helped bland fried squid begging for seasoning.
My recommendation is to head to the warm and welcoming Beekman for a drink only and to find another place to eat.
