For a respite when visiting the galleries at Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), head to the fifth floor for a delightful lunch at the stark white minimalist  Terrace 5 restaurant overlooking the sculpture garden. This — like the upscale The Modern restaurant at the museum — is part of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, serving seasonal fare. Unlike The Modern, you can’t dine at Terrace 5 unless you’ve sprung for MoMA admission.

I strongly suggest getting there at 11 am when the restaurant opens, instead of at noon when there’s often a wait. Whichever, it’s worth it. But unlike

We shared the hearty appetizer portion of hummus ($7) made inhouse only from chick peas, lemon zest, lemon juice and olive oil — no tahini — served with irresistible cracker-thin lavash flatbread drizzled with olive oil.

The ample portion of curried organic chicken strip salad ($16) comes served on Moroccan m’smen flatbread along with shredded lettuce and garnished with pickled veggies (cauliflower and carrot). Both flat breads are from Hot Bread Kitchen, “a non-profit that sells a line of multi-ethnic breads in order to increase access to the culinary industry for women and minority entrepreneurs.”
