I had learned about Taboonette, the downtown counter-serve Mediterranean & Middle Eastern rustic restaurant, when I dined earlier this year at Taboon in Hell’s kitchen. Liking the food uptown — especially their meze — I had to try it.
Although Taboonette is basically a quick sandwich shop, I decided to try some non-pita filled options. I was glad I did.
Their za’atar seasoned crusted salmon comes atop yellow rice along with a lightly dressed arugula salad and some tzatziki ($13). I’d go back for that. You can also get this dish with quinoa.
Also good is the warm kale salad ($9) with diced sweet potatoes and chick peas in a light vinaigrette, but after eating it I decided I much a chilled kale salad.
A great place to stop for a reasonable priced meal near Union Square.
