What I love most about being invited to a restaurant as their guest is when the management allows me to have small tastes of many things so that I can share lots with you. That’s what happened at Sullivan Street Bakery in Chelsea recently, Jim Lahey’s second outpost of the bakery. Jim was the first recipient of the James Beard Award for Outstanding Baker in 2015.

We started with a small bowl of the tasty roasted butternut squash soup with chunks of green apple, pumpkin seeds and aleppo pepper ($8). Perfect for a chilly day! I’d recommend.

We also sampled the zucchini Roman-style pizzas, the cipolla (a soft cooked egg with caramelized onion sandwich, $7) the all-natural Duroc pork sandwich with Dijon mustard, Vermont cheddar and pickled red cabbage ($11), the ceci sandwich with housemade chickpea fritters, cucumber, roasted red pepper, charred beet, pickled onion, Hawthorne Valley kimchi and tahini ($11) and the smoked salmon tartine with whipped mascarpone, cucumber, pickled onion, horseradish and dill $12)

Each was a satisfying tasty light lunch that I’d recommend along with their pastries and cappuccino!
