Who knew my Bogner ski sweaters and heavy long underwear would get such good use in Manhattan? I wore that and more to meet a friend for brunch one weekend at Sel et Poivre on Lexington. Their outdoor dining dwelling is closed on all four sides, making it more like indoor dining.

Since we ended up sitting outside at a table without any heat source, we ordered only one course and a glass of wine. Service at this white-tablecloth French restaurant was attentive.

My dining partner had their omelette with herbs and mushrooms with French fries ($16.95); I indulged in an aged New York sirloin steak with a Roquefort creme sauce and fries ($31.95). With that, we each had a glass of Bordeaux, the 2015 Les Haute del le Gaffeliere ($15).

We laughed at how quickly our meals — that we were enjoying — turned cold. Welcome to winter dining during COVID.

Once the weather warms up, I’ll have to return to sample more of their menu before I make a recommendation!
