I had read about the Sunday Jazz brunch at Scoozzi’s, but somehow had never made it there until now.  As we walked into the sunlight dining room, I  could hear the soft music.

At first I was a bit worried as we were seated just three feet away from the musicians, as catch-up was the order for the day and I wanted to be able to hear our conversation.

We did enjoy listening to Tony Lombardozzi & Company’s jazz while sipping Mionetto Prosecco ($32/bottle) and waiting for our food. We waited and waited about an hour in a not-packed restaurant. At least we had the seeded flatbread and roasted pepper hummus to nibble — while being patient.

The jazz was perfect:  soft and in the background. Wish I could report that the food was as good as the music.

We split two brunch offerings: Frittata “Toscano” Swiss chard, oven roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese  ($12) and Scoozzi Benedetto poached eggs with applewood smoked bacon, over Swiss chard, grilled ciabatta bread, hollandaise, winter black truffle ($13).

The thin and overcooked, but flavorful frittata came with tasty, but cold potatoes. The eggs in the other entree were more hard-cooked than poached, the hollandaise (which we asked for on the side) was so thick it was like pouring Heinz ketchup from a new bottle.  At least the bacon was good. And it wasn’t until I began typing this review that I realized that the truffle was lacking — at least from my half of the dish.

When our waitress asked how our food was, we said good (lying a bit) but cold. She said, “I’m sorry” and walked away. We laughed.  Later she returned, “I apologize again.” And walked away again, leaving us laughing again. At least she asked.

I’d still recommend it as it was enjoyable afternoon, and the jazz was perfect.
