Park Avenue Tavern, a quintessential American bar and restaurant, is located near Grand Central Station. Their indoor structure was a bit too closed for us, so we sat in the street area close to a heater.

I started with a vesper martini ($ 17), a mixture of gin, vodka and Lillet, my friend needed something warm and ordered the Calvados Hot Toddy ($16), made with apple brandy and honey and chosen because it was a warm cup to hold onto. I’ve been noticing lots of warm drinks on menus since we began dining outside this winter.

We shared two dishes, asking our friendly waiter to serve them one at a time so they stayed warm. I’d recommend their fish & chips ($25) the beer-battered cod comes wrapped in paper along with vinegar (very British) along with house-made fries, a small portion of coleslaw and tartar sauce for dipping.

I’d also recommend their shrimp risotto prepared in a tomato broth with white wine, asparagus and grape tomatoes ($32).
