The women sitting next to me in the nail salon raved about chicken saté at Pad Thai in Chelsea, saying the peanut sauce was the best she’d ever had. We chatted more, discussing other food choices and it seemed as though we were in food sync. Since Pad Thai was near my hood, I thought I’d walk over and check it out. Sometime I’ve gotten lucky with recos. Sometimes.

I still dream about the flavor of the best saté I ever had, which was in flight in business class on Malaysian Air on my way to Kuala Lumpur.  Seriously, I can almost still taste the spicy sauce with chunks of peanuts and just the right amount of chili peppers served with skewers of perfectly cooked chicken.

Pad Thai’s chicken saté didn’t come close. It consisted of evenly shaped, skewered grilled spongy chicken, served with a watery bland  peanut sauce  ($7).

I wouldn’t recommend eating here, but would recommend the light nail color she suggested.
