For a light delicious lunch bite in right off Union Square, head to Olives in the W Hotel on the north-east corner of the square.

While deciding what to order, we nibbled their minced olives on the fresh bread. The only disappointment of the lunch was my Eradus Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough) ’11 ($12) wine selection. I felt it was missing the classic minerality that I love of that region of New Zealand. The octopus salad is refreshingly flavorful with charred octopus ($14) spicy sausage, chickpeas, piquillo peppers and pickled red onion topped with peppery arugula and drizzled with olive oil. I highly recommend.

Another not to be missed item is one of Olives wonderful flatbreads, like the wild mushroom one($14) with fontina cheese and caramelized onions. A perfect place for lunch.
