We met at Grand Central to see the new permanent art installation that’s located above the entrance to the subway. This mirrored-glass pop of color with over 5,000 individually cut pieces of glass in more than 70 colors is the work of Jim Hodges, called “I dreamed a world and called it Love.”

Sadly half of the installation was covered with plastic as there is construction in the station. I don’t suggest heading there to see this unless you’re there to take a train or subway. Our visit took only a couple of minutes, basically as long as it took to descended and then ascended steps to the subway entrance.

We planned to have a burger and fries somewhere and so we began walking north in the city looking for a restaurant. We ended up getting a table at Alain Ducasse’s contemporary French Bistro, Benoit on West 55th Street.

They offered gougères (French cheese puffs) as an amuse-bouche that we nibbled while deciding on a wine.

We both ordered their perfectly executed burgers. That Benoit cheeseburger ($25) came topped with smoked bacon, cheese and a huge pile of caramelized onions. We washed that down with a Bordeaux, the Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux, Châteaux Carignan, 2015 ($82)

I’d recommend a visit.
