When served a Bloody Mary ($7) garnished with pickled okra, I knew I was in the South; that, the plate of biscuits ($5) for the table and the price.

Our first breakfast at our Nashville celebration was at Fenwick’s 300, a modern diner in the Melrose section. The birthday boy ordered corned beef sauerkraut hash ($13) with a poached egg topped with Hollandaise; I indulged in the Ian 3-egg omelet ($14) with turkey chorizo, jalapeño, onions and cheddar cheese, plus home fries with sides of salsa; those crispy chunks of fried potatoes made that dish.

At Noshville, a diner that describes itself as a New York Deli, the griddle cake fills the plate (1 cake, 1 egg, 1 bacon $8.99). The birthday boy again ordered corned beef hash and eggs ($13.99)

At breakfast at Snooze East Nashville, I went south of the border ordering their crispy corn shells layered with house black beans, Jack cheese and house-made green chile and ranchero sauces, all topped with poached eggs, cotija cheese, scallions and house-made pickled peppers ($13.25) with a Thai Bloody Mary (Bloody Mary mix with wasabi, ginger, worcestershire sauce, tamari soy sauce and pepper (habanero & jalapeño) infused vodka ($10.95). We also shared — and I’d recommend — theirs signature bacon, glazed with house-made maple & black pepper (3 slices $6.75).

Another day, we rode 25 miles south of Nashville along Highway 41a to the Nash Family Creamery, where Stephanie — a fourth-generation Nash, gave us a tour of their family’s dairy farm. Before boarding the tractor-pulled cart mid-morning, we noticed a line at their ice cream counter. Unanimously, we decided to stop after the tour to try one of their 20+ different housemade flavors. I indulged in midnight dark chocolate loaded with chocolate chips. We also bought their fresh cheese for our next stop.

On the way back to Nashville, we stopped at the 95-acre property of Arrington Vineyards, with gorgeous views and shaded picnic areas. We ordered one of their charcuterie boards, bought a bottle of their Antebellum Red, 2019 ($30) after getting a taste ($3) of it and added our Nash cheeses.  The board from their onsite caterer, Simply Living Life, contained stuffed olives, Italian salami, bleu cheese wedge, rosemary cashews, rosemary goat cheese, baby brie with jam, Caprese salad, grapes and farm bread perfect pairing with the wine ($65).

I highly recommend a trip to Nashville!
