Pastis was packed inside and out. Luckily we had booked an outdoor table as the noise inside can be deafening. I tried their Pastis Frosé made from rosé wine, vodka, Lillet and lemon — that’s an alcohol-imbibed frozen slushie ($16) while my dining partner has a glass of rosé, the Aix-en-Provence, Gotham Project “Sabine” ‘20 grenache, syrah, cinsault ($13).

We asked that our food be served in courses, starting with the heirloom tomato and stone fruit salad with fresh regular and micro basil. Wished I had a little salt for that fresh salad and more fruit instead of cucumbers. That said, it was tasty. We followed that with a bowl of bouillabaisse with shrimp, snapper and mussels ($38) that my chef dining partner said wasn’t that classic Marseilles fish stew as it was missing the saffron. It was, though, good enough to recommend.

The kitchen was kind enough to divide the seafood stew into two bowls, as we were sharing. (NB the photos are of half a portion!) The soup came with toasted bread slices and some rouille to mix in. With that we also had a side of steamed haricot verts ($10).

I’d recommend a visit if you’re in the meat-packing district, walking the Highline or visiting Little Island.
