We met one sunny afternoon for lunch at Aurora Soho, an authentic Italian restaurant on Broome Street. We sat in their outdoor structure feeling so warm and toasty with both electric and gas heaters that I even took off my coat.

Although Aurora’s been there for 14 years, I just discovered it.  Loved how — like in Italy — the waiter appears at the table when serving or when beckoned. He served us herb-seasoned olive oil and thick-cut Italian bread with a chewy crust and interior while we perused the menu.

Their fritto misto contained succulent lightly fried shrimp, squid (calamari), broccoli rabe (not enough for me!), served with an unusual tuna-caper aioli for dipping ($18). I’d recommend. We then cleared our palate with one of their salad of shredded Tuscan kale and Brussels sprouts dotted with pistachios and topped with shreds of pecorino ($14).

For our pasta course, we split their spinach Paccheri, a very large tube pasta that originated from Campania. The green tubes were tossed with tender veal ossobuco and mushroom ragù sprinkled with parsley, lemon and garlic ($24).

It was a filling satisfying meal at a place I’d recommend.
