Le Midi, a warm and welcoming bistro near Union Square, offers happy hour from 4 to 7 daily, including weekends. We stopped by one Saturday for a glass of wine and nibbles, and ended up with a bottle as the crisp, dry, with a touch of spice Loire Valley Perle Bleue, Sur Lie, Chateau de la Jousseliniere was a mere $22!

With that we had two nibbles that I’d recommend. Try both the five warm goat cheese fritters ($6) served with a spicy tomato sauce and the crisp baguette slices with tapenade, roasted red pepper slices and eggplant caviar ($12).  Skip the plebeian gaufrette potato chips with a saffron-garlic flavored aioli ($6).
