I met some friends recently for welcoming cocktails, friendly service and decent food at Le Bistro d’à Côté, a French bistro on the Upper East Side.
The whimsical chalkboard cocktail list described the mojitos with “fresh mint, lime juice, demarra syrup, maunt gray rhum.” I’d recommend those refreshing mojitos made with Mount Gay Rum and chock full of fresh mint.
I’d also recommend the grilled spicy merguez (lamb sausages) sandwich ($12) with ratatouille and harissa on a baguette with a side of fries; the classic Cobb salad with chopped ($15) grilled chicken, ham, bacon, bleu cheese and hard cooked egg in a chiffonade of lettuce; and the croustillant, crunchy grilled goat cheese square atop a lightly dressed spinach, mixed green, tomato and fruit baton salad ($13.50).
My least favorite was their croque monsieur $13, a very dry toasted ham sandwich topped with cheese and served with fries. Skip that.
Worth a brunch visit.
