After reading that Chef Marc Murphy and the Gerber Group recently opened a New American restaurant in the Viceroy Hotel, I had it on my “to try” list.

I stopped by recently for a light lunch with a friend. As we were looking at the menu, the server placed some wonderfully crusty bread along with housemade tomato jam and rosemary lard, the currently in-vogue bread spread.

We shared their crispy baby artichokes ($14) to start.  Plentiful, but a tad oily and in need of salt and pepper.

We then shared a roasted pork sandwich filled with a soupçon of broccoli rabe on ciabatta bread spread with a spiced relish. Although a delicious amalgam of flavors, the pork was gristly and the provolone missing. What were perfection were the salt and pepper fries ($10) served with a sweet onion aioli and, of course, ketchup. Don’t miss them.
