I love when out-of-towners call spur of the moment to get together as their schedule permits. So when my west-coast friend asked to grab a quick bite before heading to theatre, I jumped at the chance as it had been years since we were together.

The Haven Rooftop was close to both theatres and a fun casual place to get a bite. I’d only experienced and liked this restaurant’s brunch. My dining partner was seeing Hadestown, and I was off to Shucked, the corny musical about a small-town woman searching for someone to figure out why all the county’s corn was dying.

I started with a good Maker’s Mark old fashioned, my friend with their Solstice cocktail, made with Casamigos tequila, jalapeño peppers, cucumber and lime juice (both yummy at $18).

We started with the layered crab and avocado app ($24) with crisp wontons to enjoy the jumbo lump crab, avocado and dip. A dish that our server raved about. I’d recommend.

French fries were a factor in our next decision. Did we want the lobster roll with fries or the lobster Cobb ($36) salad? We decided on the salad with a side order of fries. The salad was okay with its romaine lettuce, hard-cooked egg, bacon croutons and two cherry tomatoes in a Caesar dressing topped with crumbled blue cheese.

The fries were amazingly crisp and remained that way through the last shoestring potato. And there wasn’t a drop of grease on the paper cone.  I’d go back just for those fries ($11). Yes, that good.

The atmosphere, view, friendly servers and vibe again had drawn me to this place. And its location near the theatres is a plus.

I ran south to see while my dining partner headed north for our curtains, happy to have spent time together.
