One Connecticut friend and I decided on a beach day at Milford’s Gulf Beach, grabbing a bite ahead of time, then spending the day by the water catching up! Like many of you, the pandemic kept me distanced from many friends.

We had a quick lunch on the patio of Founders House Pub, not far from the train station or beach. We started with cocktails that seemed such a bargain compared to the Big Apple. The espresso martini was a mere $13, the Ketel One on the rocks $11.

We shared two fresh salads, both of which I’d recommend.  One was an unusual chilled sweet potato and avocado with kale, roasted Brussels sprouts, crispy chickpeas, goat cheese, dried cranberries and roasted garlic garnished with sweet potato croutons ($15). We topped that with chicken (+$7). The other roasted red and golden beets with carrots, chickpeas and goat cheese on frisée ($13) plus salmon (+$9).

After the day at the beach, I returned to the city for the Atlantic Theater Company’s production of Bedwetter. This new musical with music by Adam Schlesinger is based on Sarah Silverman’s bestselling memoir.

I laughed so hard I almost peed in my pants! (It closed in July.)
