When I picture the youth of tomorrow, the image that pops in my mind is that of a 5-year old with a blue-tooth headset, an IPhone on their lap and an Xbox controller in their hands. Granted I don’t have a posse of 5-year olds that I can refer to as friends, but I can only imagine they’re as technologically saavy as I am — the question is, can they also hold their own in the kitchen?

I’m sure most parents would love the idea of handing their child a cooking knife and recipe, sitting on the couch with their feet-up and a glass of wine, and saying “When’s dinner?” The reality is, most parents order-in…(I’ll wait for all the comments on that statement). Truth be told, cooking is an art, and most parents might overlook the fact that “cooking projects are a great way to feed children’s curiosity and their natural desire Curious_Chef_Logoto explore the world—hands-on!”

I was a toddler when I started to cook; needless to say I had a great teacher. When I think back to those days, I have a fond memory of most of the utensils and equipment I was able to use (of course many of the “costlier” pieces were off limits). There were a random assortment of wooden utensils, dented metal measuring cups and spoons and a collection of colorful mixing bowls — and I would pump-out batches of cookies, brownies and muffins, mostly while standing on a stepping stool and supervised.

For young, budding chefs nowadays, there is the Curious Chef collection that features colorful utensils designed for kids to use safely and easily. Every piece in the Curious Chef collection is sized for small hands. What’s more, they’re bright, fun, and easy to grip. Even the cutlery is plastic and nylon, with blunt tips for safety. The collection is extensive, with nearly everything a budding sous-chef might need:

  • Plastic knives
  • Cutting boards
  • Cookie cutters
  • Aprons
  • Measuring spoons
  • Flippers, Peelers, Scrappers and Scoopers

— Give a child macaroni & cheese and they eat for day, teach a child to measure, pour and mix, and they eat for a lifetime —
