Casimir & Co is a new French bistro on the Upper East Side

The brainchild of restaurateur duo Mario Carta and Patrick Laurent, Casimir & Co will transport diners to a Parisian bistro clad as it’s with rustic wood finishing on the walls, an open kitchen with tempting charcuterie hanging in the window, and daily menus listed on individual chalk boards.

The street-level full service bar has few high-top tables, and the second-level L-shaped dining room is surrounded by large windows overlooking Lexington Avenue. Executive Chef Richard Krause, with years at  several two and three star kitchens (most recently at Café Luxembourg), prepares dishes rooted in simple and traditionally satisfying bistro fare. Krause offers a seasonal menu rotating daily for lunch, dinner and brunch. The house’s signature dish, L’entrecôte Casimir & Co — a grass fed NY strip served on a wooden board with a “secret” sauce and homemade frites  ($22).

Other staples include a half an organic herb-roasted chicken served with creamy mashed potatoes and whole branzino roasted in a sea salt crust. Patrons can order wine à la ficelle, giving guests the option to sample wines ‘by the glass’ based on consumption measured by a string (or ficelle) allowing the bottle of wine to remain on the table and enjoyed at will. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating.

Casmir & Co, 1022 Lexington Avenue, corner of 73rd Street,  is open seven days a week for lunch 11am-4pm and dinner 4pm-Midnight.
