In the mood for a burger and fries, I tried to book Steak Frites on Open Table, but oddly couldn’t find it. So I reverted to an antiquated method and called, learning that they had closed their doors, and a Mexican place had moved in — at least that’s what I was told.

So when I friend wanted to get a Mexican nibble one weekend near Union Square, I suggested we try it for brunch. It was not the place to go for Mexican food. Instead, Campeón is a perfect place for sports-loving millennial, who don’t mind deafening noise, mediocre food and numerous large-screen TV’s each tuned to a different sports channel.

Their hearty portions are perfect for that crowd. Way too much uninspired food for us. We tried their torta, a sandwich overflowing with slow-cooked pork shoulder, an egg, oaxaca cheese, avocado, onions, lettuce, tomatoes and chipotle aioli; and, the breakfast burrito ($14)—  a flour tortilla filled with chorizo,  scrambled eggs, Jack cheese, and pico de gallo. The latter came with home fries that needed some seasoning and more time on the grill.
