Gallow Green again morphed, turning the cozy mountainside Lodge from the winter into a rooftop oasis atop the McKittrick hotel where they’re now serving brunch ($35 a person).

Personally, I prefer being served to buffets. But I overlooked that on a beautiful Sunday at this outdoor train station-like setting, nestled among greenery with live music by MK Groove. Making four trips to the buffet, I tried about everything. Glutton I’m not. Seriously, as their guest, it’s my duty to sample as much as possible.

My first trip to their food offerings was my favorite of the day. I tried many of their interesting grain and green salads that included heirloom cherry tomatoes with pomegranate arils; colorful hot house yellow tomatoes with mozzarella; layered roasted variegated beets; and jumbo shrimp with dips.

Next was a visit to the extensive hot buffet with servers carving and serving the roast suckling pig, chunks of whole baked Scottish salmon and fried Amish organic chicken pieces. I asked for the smallest taste possible of each plus their pee-wee multicolor potatoes and hot veggies.

I knew I’d like the omelet station as I’m an eggs-for-breakfast gal. I ordered mine with the works (red peppers, mushroom, cheese, bacon and diced tomatoes). Then I filled my final plate with seasonal berries and fruit, took a spoonful of the crunchy almond granola and one of the warm mini cinnamon buns I overheard a couple raving about.

After perusing the menu to write this review, I realized that there were lots more goodies offered than available once we arrived for the last sitting. I suggest going earlier to enjoy the rooftop settling and music.

To be fair to your possible thoughts about our gluttony, we were there for 3+ hours soaking in the essence of the rooftop and savoring the ambiance. I highly recommend making a res for this rooftop musical Sunday brunch.
