While spending the weekend in Mantoloking, NJ, we headed to Dune Grass Cafe for breakfast one morning being invited by one of our friends who is their landlord. The warm and friendly cafe is family-owned and operated, and has been for decades.

I couldn’t resist their huevos ranchero ($12.95), one of my favorite breakfast items, as when we walked in I noticed another patron enjoying it. Their version contained two fried corn tortillas topped with black beans, poached eggs (my request), house-made salsa and queso fresco topped with fresh avocado.

One friend enjoyed their three-cheese — American, Swiss and Mozzarella — omelet ($9.95) with home fries and toast, the other had the 222 combo ($8.75). That’s two pieces of bacon, two pancakes and two eggs (she requested them over easy).

And, then we had a serving of their French fries ($4) as I was told I couldn’t miss them. After sampling, I learned that they are coated in seasoned flour before being deep fried. Think, crisp, yummy and worth the calories.

I recommend a visit.
