Bread & Tulip, a rustic Italian kitchen and bar in the Gramercy/Flatiron area, is down a flight of stairs, obviously sans windows. Lack of light aside, the food was quite good.

For our light lunch, we shared both a salad and pizza. The Tuscan kale salad ($13.5) is refreshing with its shredded kale and purple cabbage tossed with sweet currants, pecorino cheese and a light lemon-olive oil dressing. I’d recommend that just as I would their hand-rolled, thick crusted Margarita pizza ($13.5). That came topped with sweet crushed san marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil chiffonade. I only wished I had some hot pepper flakes to sprinkle on the pizza.

A reasonably priced place to grab a quick lunch when shopping in the area.
