IMG_9343Normally, I wouldn’t share my thoughts about a restaurant not worth the visit. But I’ve written on, and raved about,  Bespoke when the restaurant was owned and run by that highly creative and incredibly talented team of Arturo and Suzette Franco-Camacho who moved to Branford to open The Suburban. And that recommendation is listed on Urbanspoon.

I stopped by Bespoke recently to sample the new menu. I nibbled their delicious garbanzo bean dip (with sherry wine vinegar, cilantro and chives) spread on the crusty bread. A nice start.

The menu offerings sounded quite interesting. We started with the Truffled Risotto ($11 for a half portion) – sadly the rice was crunchy (READ: undercooked) with a tad too much truffle oil and with undercooked diced butternut squash and one dried cranberry. I know that’s only because I asked what the one red piece was in the risotto.

I looked forward to the Stuffed Crepes ($12)  filled with duck confit, caramelized tomatoes and sweet onions. That flavor combination sounded delightful but was flavorless and mushy.

The best appetizer is the Pork Belly Lettuce Cups containing undercooked chunks of pork belly with strips of fat in a fresh Boston lettuce leaf topped with flavorless smoked eggplant and kimchi ($11). Sadly nothing on the menu that I tried delivered.
