I was invited to sample the fall pumpkin tasting at Bedford & Company inside the Renwick hotel on 40th Street ($39/person). Knowing that this review wouldn’t post until the fall tasting was no longer available, I had asked whether at least one of us could sample something from their interesting menu. Sadly, they chose to serve both of us the tasting menu so that’s all I can share with you even thought we noticed many more interesting foods pass by my table as we were right in front of the open kitchen!
My favorite presentation was the seared sea scallops (although a tad too salty for me) seasoned with citrus zest and served along with flavorful chunks of roasted pumpkin. The pumpkin-shaped pasta came with chunks of that squash topped with fresh basil and shreds of Pecorino Sardo cheese.
The wood roasted pork (too fatty for both of us) came with flavorful marinated radicchio plus more roasted pumpkin. We ended with pumpkin cheesecake made too far ahead or left uncovered in the fridge as it has that “refrigerator” taste, topped with their wonderful crisp crunchy (and yummy) housemade graham cracker pieces, which I ate and left the rest.
Since this packed restaurant had a great buzz with inviting food that passed us by, I’d suggest trying something from their regular menu. If you do, let me know what you think!
