Bonnie: Last month I had sent out an all-points bulletin to food companies as well as their public relations firms looking for some brand new low-calorie items for a shopping column in Better Homes & Gardens’ 2010 Diet issue.

I was inundated with suggestions, with many of the companies missing the point that I needed products to be new — not now, but in late fall 2009. But the good part of this exercise was finding a bunch of delicious items that I tried and can now recommend to you.

Amy’s Teriyaki Wrap — microwavable in just minutes — is one of them. The teriyaki sauce contributes just enough sweet, tangy flavor to the organic tofu, brown rice and medley of veggies — including broccoli, green beans, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, water chestnuts and bell peppers — all wrapped inside an organic tortilla. It’s yummy.

That, and I like its nutritional profile of 290 calories, 7 grams total fat (only 1 of which is saturated), 460 milligrams sodium and a very hearty 5 grams fiber. It makes a quick, filling snack — or light meal — along with a salad and some fruit.

Bryan: Snacking is a reality, people; everyone does it and there’s nothing wrong with it. Even those trying to lose weight should note that eating small “meals” throughout your day is a far better way to consume food than eating big meals in one or two sittings. Considering our grazing ways, what more can you ask for but a really healthy snack (or small lunch) on the go, at the office or in your home? Amy’s answers the call….

Sometimes the things you don’t see on an ingredients list are as important as the things you do see. Amy’s Teriyaki Wraps have no trans fats, no MSG and no preservatives. The impressively healthy ingredients list reads as a grocery list of foods that we’d all like to eat more of, but rarely end up doing. This is something quick and easy that you’ll actually feel good about putting in your body: brown rice, tofu, broccoli, green beans, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, bell peppers and more — all organic, low in fat and amazingly tasty! Add some ginger, garlic, sesame oil and a few other varied spices and you’ve got a very healthy, very delectable snack, wrapped and ready to eat after just two minutes in the microwave.

This wrap is for everyone: It’s dairy-free, cholesterol-free, lactose-free, tree-nut-free, vegan and certified kosher. If you happen to not care about any of these things (and I toss myself in that lot), it’s still an amazingly nutritious, delicious treat in the middle of your day. Amy’s products have impressed me many times before and they have simply done it again. It’s hard to find fault with an all-natural line of healthy foods and Amy’s has really succeeded with its new tofu Teriyaki Wrap — a real winner!

Eric: Every time I tell someone about what I do for Bite of the Best (i.e. testing and reviewing food-related consumer products) I’m always asked, “How are you still skinny?” My standard reply is, “I eat healthy!”

I’m a foodie, and after testing and reviewing products for the majority of my life, I’ve gained complete respect for the healthier side of indulgence, and for the most part, have learned what not to eat.

Amy’s Teriyaki Wrap is my definition of a healthy snack, and for that matter, as a company, Amy’s is a beacon of hope for those looking to start down a healthy path. Snacking, as my brother mentioned, is the quintessential element to a stable metabolism, and Amy’s has helped to redefine what a healthy snack should be.
