Ambrose Beer & Lobster is located in the newly rebuilt (after Sandy) historic downtown South Street Seaport on the corner of Fulton and Front streets. I was invited recently to sample their fare and sat outside on Front Street enjoying a breeze that flowed down the cobblestone street.
Start with their refreshing salad of cubes of watermelon sprinkled with crumbled feta and lots of fresh mint all drizzled with a balsamic glaze ($13).
Next choose how you want your fresh Maine lobster. I suggest trying their lobster roll ($21) — a toasted buttered hot dog bun overflowing the fresh lobster with a smidgen of mayo, served with a bag of Cape Cod chips. Don’t miss the fries ($6)… we had ours drizzled with parmesan and truffle oil (+$2)
Also good is the huge salad ($23), with lots of fresh lobster, a sliced avocado half, cucumber slices, diced mango and diced tomatoes over a giant bowl of torn Boston lettuce in a light lemon vinaigrette. Since it was August when I visited, I thought those tomatoes should have been at their juiciest and most flavorful. They weren’t.
If you’re not in a lobster mood you could sample their clam chowder, a hot dog or a pretzel. Ambrose Beer & Lobster is worth a stop — one that won’t break the bank — if you’re in the South Street Seaport area.
