I finally made it to ABC Cucina as I happened on a reservation right after they opened for brunch. If you haven’t heard, this is Jean George’s restaurant — around the corner from ABC Kitchen — inspired by local purveyors, global artisans and Spanish, Latin and Mexican flavors. It’s well worth the visit.

There’s been lots of hype about their the pea guacamole so I couldn’t not order it. Like traditional guac it’s made with avocados, limes and jalapeños, but in lieu of tomatoes, ABC adds fresh peas and tops it with sunflower seeds, microgreens and more peas. The light and zesty guac comes with fresh tortilla chips ($11). Not to be missed.

We tried their tart, yet sweet strawberry caipirihna with the bartender using fresh mint from the roof garden and strawberries from the nearby Union Square green market. Refreshing.

For brunch, we opted for egg dishes that use fresh organic & local ingredients. Their version huevos rancheros includes farm eggs, fresh corn tortillas and a light refreshing salsa ($19); their eggs Benedict, a cripsy corn tortilla  Flying Pigs Farm ham coated in a perfect amount of hollandaise ($18). Both made with high-quality fresh ingredients.

Definitely worth the trip, that is if you can get a reservation!
