I returned to Sona, the upscale Indian restaurant on East 20th Street, to celebrate my friend’s wedding, which I sadly missed because Camp Grammie happened simultaneously on the opposite side of the country.

Sona serves global Indian fare in a comfortable setting with attentive, knowledgeable service. We started with their seasonal version of an Old Fashioned ($19) served in stemless snifters so we could enjoy the aromatic cinnamon stick stirrer.

Gobhi is one of my go-to’s at Indian restaurants. This version’s crispy cauliflower ($18) comes dusted with lentil powder.

I’d also recommend their spice-roasted Japanese sweet potatoes (shakarkandi) that sit in a puddle of honey-yogurt flavored with pomegranates ($18). We used the garlicky naan ($8) to sop up the sauce.

Also remarkable is their buckwheat bhel ($18) with sprouting fenugreek, raw mango and puffed rice in a chili honey vinaigrette topped with a crisp honeycomb dome.

The newly married lovebirds mentioned working on preparing dosa, the thin pancake made from fermented black lentils and rice, so we ordered SONA’s version ($22). It came with turmeric-seasoned potatoes and green chutney.

Also good is their vegetable biriyani ($28).

We finished with a mango passion sorbet with coconut yogurt mousse and a coconut macaroon ($10).

I highly recommend.
