Having recently returned from Cancun, I was yearning for some fresh guacamole. I enticed a friend to meet me at Agave, a Mexican restaurant in the West Village.

While waiting for my friend to arrive, I started chatting with the group of young folks sitting at the table next to me. The lighting was much better at their table so I had asked if they minded me photographing their food (pancakes are theirs!). They highly recommended ordering the nachos off the menu saying they were the best ever. How could I resist?

Sadly, our waitress was not flexible or very service-oriented. We noticed that a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, so she knew she didn’t have to try! She didn’t.

We settled on the guac and chips ($14) that I craved. My friend tried their alcohol-free Mano-Tree ($9) made mango, pineapple and orange juices with grenadine. We laughed as her second tasted nothing like the first.

I sampled their Acapulco Spice margaritas ($14) with Housemade jalapeño-infused tequila, fresh lime juice and jalapeños. It was a very mediocre cocktail so I didn’t order a second.

Their guac though did satisfy. We grabbed a waiter going by to request had to request some extra small cups of their pico de gallo and their green tomatillo salsa as our waitress was MIA.

We were so full from the guac and chips that we decided to only share their grilled adobo chicken quesadillas ($14) that were oh, so filling.
