We had met to see the holiday lights at Pete’s Tavern and grab a burger. The host put our name on the list and said he would call in about 1 1/2 hours to be seated — inside or out.

Meanwhile, we headed across the street to Friend of a Farmer for a drink, selecting that night’s special — a blood orange margie ($18).

We were so comfy that we opted to have our burger there. So glad we did. Before they brought our meal, the server brought their complementary cornbread topped with apple chutney.

They make their Barn Burger with ground Wagyu beef, cooked to perfection and topped with sautéed onions, cheddar cheese, bacon, chipotle aioli, tomato and arugula on a brioche bun with farmer’s fries ($26). It’s so large that I had to cut this delicious burger in half to bite into it.

We were so glad we didn’t wait for the callback, as Pete’s Tavern never called!
