Our Empty Space, headed by Danyel Aversanti, organized its 2ndNew Haven Street Table on a balmy summer evening on High Street between Chapel and Crown.  Following the success of the first table, the event increased attendance from 75 to 100 people, all seated at one long table. Eight restaurants were scheduled to serve various tables assigned to them, and proceeds from the event are being donated to Common Ground High School which promotes healthy eating and environmental awareness.

IKEA jumped on board this round and provided colorful table linens and tableware.  At the first street table, the plastic ware was kept together in the paper that you roll coins in.  This time the silverware – stepped up from plastic – was distributed in smartly printed long brown paper envelopes.

Once again there were ample amounts of red and white wine served in carafes at each table, along with water service. Each table was assigned a different restaurant, with an appetizer, entrée and dessert all served family style. My table had Geronimo providing the meal.  We had fish tacos and watermelon gazpacho to start; our entrée course was chicken tamales, with smoked veal brisket with wild mushrooms, and we shared tequila lime tart for dessert. Geronimo’s executive chef, Tim Scott, served and supervised the service. Other restaurants serving up a storm, were Caseus, Soul de Cuba, Ibiza, Miya’s, Heirloom and Olde School.

Unfortunately, there was a glitch with an additional restaurant either backing out or not providing what was asked, and the table next to mine never received an entrée platter. Luckily, those surrounding them shared what they were served, and Geronimo jumped in to help accommodate as well, so the evening was family style — and neighborly.

All in all, it was another delicious social experience.  Stay tuned to see if they plan a 3rd!
