Met an old friend in the theatre district for a quick lunch at her friend’s family place in the Edison Hotel on 47th Street.  Cafe Edison is like stepping back in time, reminding me of Jewish establishment on the lower east side. You’ll find classic Eastern European Jewish dishes including cheese blintzes, borscht, matzo ball soup, potato pancakes, gefilte fish and sometime kishka (stuffed derma) on the menu.

I opted for the Whitefish salad platter ($10.75) with such heaping portions of coleslaw, potato salad and white fish salad that I packed half of it. What I did eat was deliciously freshly made.

A great coffee shop in the theatre district that won’t break the bank
