Snack Eos, Hell’s Kitchen, NYC

Before heading to Playwright’s Horizon one night, we stopped in to a contemporary Greek restaurant on the corner of 9th Avenue and 39th Street. Snack Eos offers a taste of the Mediterranean in a warm welcoming space. I liked it.

The chef tickled our appetites with an amuse bouche of chickpeas, grapes, green olives and alepo pepper.

I’ve been on a meze kick lately. Snack Eos’s didn’t disappoint. I suggest their sampler ($15) consisting of three flavorful vegetarian dips: the roasted red pepper with pomegranate, walnuts and harissa (muhammara); their version of baba ghanoush (melitzanosalata) smoked roasted eggplant, red pepper, garlic and tahini; and a garlic dill cucumber yogurt (tzatziki) served with warm pita. Worth the visit alone.

The salad of grilled calamari with arugula and gigiante beans in a lemon vinaigrette($14) completed our light bite befor running to the curtain.

I’d recommend Snack Eos if you’re looking for a place in the theatre district for a bite.
