Situated overlooking the Housatonic River, Monty’s River Grille is located within the Great River Golf Club. We stopped there for lunch one day while visiting friends in Connecticut. We enjoyed the views from the outdoor terrace location while sipping our cocktails. I sipped an Aperol spritz ($14), while one companion had a Tito’s and soda ($12), and the other opted for a non-alcoholic strawberry limeade ($6). Two of us tried their eponymous salad, featuring green apple cubes, shaved butternut squash, and crumbled candied pecans in a fig-balsamic vinaigrette over a packed bowl of lettuce ($18); one dining partner opted for crispy chicken (+$6), I topped it with their grilled salmon (+$10) and requested a different salad dressing as the fig one sounded delicious but was too vinegary. We added fries to share ($4)

The other diner indulged in the salad with chimichurri steak tips, cotija cheese, grilled corn, roasted poblano pepper, charred onion, romaine lettuce, crushed corn chips and lime crema in the green (verde) vinaigrette  ($28).

Citrus in downtown Milford offers hearty salads, terrace seating and attentive service. I recommend their plentiful and satisfying Southwest Caesar ($15), featuring avocado, Manchego cheese, roasted corn, black beans, and grape tomatoes, topped with a cilantro-lime Caesar dressing and seared salmon (+$12). Also good is their shrimp cocktail ($16).

I recommend both Monty’s River Grille and Citrus.
