We all arrived at LouLou Petit Bistro early enough for their early dinner prix fixe menu of $42.50 plus, of course, tax and gratuity (available between 4 pm – 5:30 pm). Chatted with Jonathan the manager who shared that LouLou, on the corner of Eighth Avenue and 19th Street, opened about two months before the world shut down for the pandemic.

Cocktails first. I had their Danny Boy with Vida mezcal, Cazadores tequila, agave and muddled cucumber. I asked for it to be made heavy-handed with the jalapeno. Others chose one of the other cocktails, each $17. All were tasty.

Three of us began with the tender duck leg confit sitting near a puddle of apple rosemary puree with a side of chutney. I recommend. One sampled their generous portion of escargot in a roasted lemony tomato relish seasoned with harissa. I say generous as each section of the special plate contained two, not one, snails.

For the main course, we each had their 7-ounce portion of skirt steak with a side of béarnaise and a basket of french fries, taking home some of the generous portions as we couldn’t finish.

For dessert, we asked for one of each of the three options, sharing them all. The standout was the unusual croissant pudding made from a chocolate and almond croissant and bourbon caramel topped with vanilla ice cream.  We also shared their chocolate mousse glace with a raspberry coulis all topped with Chantilly cream and the apple tart tartin with vanilla ice cream.
