I wasn’t very hungry after a cooking demonstration at Sur La Table, but I had planned to meet a friend for a nibble at Bar Americain, Bobby Flay’s midtown bold-flavored regional American food place — and so ordered a couple of small plates.
I’d recommend either. The small grilled pizza ($18) came topped with lots of cooked diced bacon, caramelized bacon, toasted garlic and melted gruyère cheese all drizzled with a parsley pesto. The refreshing chopped asparagus salad ($15) was composed of chick peas, diced cucumber, cubed Vermont cheddar, cherry tomatoes and pita crisps over greens all in a Meyer lemon vinaigrette garnished with whole asparagus spears.
With that we each had a glass of La Val Albariño ($12) from Rias Baixis, in the Galicia region of north-western Spain.
Worth returning to sample more of the menu.
