Knowing that The View, the revolving restaurant atop the Marriott Marquis on Broadway, is a venture of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), we knew the food and service would be good. We weren’t disappointed.

And knowing it was on the 48th floor and having visited the Marriott many times, I headed straight to the lobby’s elevators, planning to punch in the 48th floor and board an elevator. Not. I learned after wandering around looking for someone to assist that I was supposed to go to the third floor, then follow the signs for The View, where a host should greet me and point me to the correct elevator.

Once we finally arrived and were seated, our fabulous server, Oneaka, took care of us. We started with cocktails, with me ordering a partly dirty martini ($22) made with Belvedere vodka with olives and twist ($22); another friend ordered a Beefeater’s gin and tonic, while we nibbled their housemade tall, yummy cheese sticks.

We shared three of their appetizers, a fresh summer green salad  ($16) with sugar and snap peas and ricotta salata in a light, perfectly balanced sherry vinaigrette; a jumbo crab cake with more Blue Crab than filling ($34) with a spicy remoulade and fried artichokes ($22) with garlic aioli. All recommended.

We shared their tender grilled swordfish ($38) with marinated artichokes and small partially dehydrated tomatoes they referred to as “tomato raisins,” all in a basil vinaigrette. Delicious. With that, we shared the entrée of farro & quinoa risotto ($28) with asparagus, fiddlehead ferns, and maitake mushrooms, which we felt should have been a side dish, not an entrée. Tasty though.

One selected the char-broiled burger ($34), topped with mushrooms, sharp cheddar and horseradish sauce, accompanied by French fries that we all shared.

Since two of us were celebrating a birthday, as we hadn’t been able to get together in June, the month we were born, we shared The View’s special Devil’s food chocolate cake ($18) with a chocolate caramel ganache.

A delightful evening as the restaurant rotated oh, so slowly. We learned it takes almost 2 hours for a full rotation.

I highly recommend.
